The Platform

Departing from the specificity of the Iza Valley and from the memory of the place, the works made expressly for Gara Săcel explore the connections between nature, infrastructure, and local practices, constructing a dialogue between contemporary art and the cultural heritage of the region. Each intervention takes as its point of departure something already present on the site — a rhythm, a material, a disused fixture, a craft still practised in the surrounding households — so that the new work does not so much occupy the station as extend a conversation the place had already begun.

The exhibition brings together interventions conceived specifically for Gara Săcel and the spaces around it, turning the whole ensemble into a route of discovery and encounter that will coagulate into a permanent collection of works destined for the area, one that will revitalise cultural contact along the valley. What begins as a set of site-responsive commissions is intended to settle, over time, into a lasting presence: works that remain where they were made, that continue to address the landscape and the community that gave rise to them, and that keep the former halt in circulation as a place where the valley’s inhabitants and visitors from elsewhere meet around something made in common.
