The Documentary Lab is the working nucleus through which Gara S\u0103cel produces its own record, a space given over to film, photography, sound recording, and oral history, where the material gathered on the site is treated as a practice with its own weight rather than as illustration appended to the artistic programme, oriented toward the testimony of those who worked the line, toward the craftspeople and toward the soundscape of the valley that goes on sounding after the trains have stopped. Situated where the exhibition’s acousmatic premise becomes a method, the Lab takes the embodied infrastructure that AbdouMaliq Simone describes under the formula <\/span>people as infrastructure<\/span><\/i> and makes it recordable, so that the knowledge which migrated into relations and repeated gestures once the material support withdrew acquires a durable trace held in the building where it was formed.<\/span><\/p>\n The Lab equips residents and visiting artists with the means to work directly with this material, and it draws the community of S\u0103cel into the making of the record rather than positioning it as the record’s subject, gathering the testimony of former railway personnel, the recollections attached to the timetable and the wait on the platform, and the ambient rhythms of the Iza that never depended on the line to keep their cadence. What accumulates across successive editions is a documentary holding anchored in the valley, one that feeds the permanent collection and remains available for research, for exhibition, and for the residencies that follow, extending the attention centred on repair that Steven J.
